Number of Strides in the 100 and 200 Meter
Approximately how many strides would an elite athlete take in the 100 meter race? 200 meter race?

Number of Strides in the 100 and 200 Meter
Tony Veney, UCLA Sprint Coach, comments on the number of strides in the 100 and 200 meter:
The elite male/female sprinter takes an average of 45/49 strides in a 100 meter race and 90/98 strides in the 200 meters. This of course is dependent upon how the first 100 meters is run and how efficient or inefficient the first 100 is (which is usually 1-2 strides more than the straight away 100m). Then you end up with a "fly" 100 over the second half of the 200 which can be as few as 3-4 strides fewer than the straight- away 100.
