What modifications do you make for athletes during the season in extremely hot weather?

I coach and also run and the most efficient way to adapt to warm weather is to:

1. water stops, place it on the courses
2. run in the shade and trails as much as possible
3. adapt to the warm weather a few weeks before school by running for a little while in the afternoon around 3 or 4 pm.
4. wear light clothing
5. emphazise the importance of drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.

College Runner and assistant coach for XC at Eastside High School in SC during the summer and when I can get home. I am young, but this is what I believe is very important. Please help me with more insight or knowledge because one day I will be coaching full time at the high school level.

John, those were good recommendations. I am fortunate enough to coach about 10 to 15 miles away from the beach. On days that are hot we will drive to the beach for our workout. It can be up to 10 degrees cooler there. The change of scenery is also a plus.
