Yes, we train for sport specific speed. There is a method to coaching sport specific speed and it should be included in workouts for all sports.
Maximum speed is reached from 50 to 60 yards, depending on development. The stronger the force, the faster the acceleration. The combination of speed and strength is power, so develop speed and strength in workouts.
