Fatigue

Post by tmtmtl »

My 12 year old daughter runs 100m, 200m, and 400m relay. She has been doing well this year her personal best in 100m 13.41, 200m 28.18, 400m relay 56.88. At the regional meet she had to run prelims and by the time finals came around I could tell she was noticeable fatigued and her times were slower. State is in 10 days is there anything I can do to help her stamina?

Rest is one of the most neglected needs of younger athletes. For an athlete in doubt, rest will probably be more useful than an extra workout. Many experienced athletes train twice a day, younger athletes need to approach this practice with caution. Students often keep late hours while studying. The extra sleep in the morning may be more useful than an extra training session. Younger athletes need more rest than older athletes. The athlete should never neglect rest because, like oxygen debt, such neglect always catches up with the body.
